Why Is the Chinese Lily Flower so Important

A bouquet of flowers is always a great go-to gift for events big or small or just to brighten up someones day. A romantic and poetic present, most types of flowers symbolize an idea or theme, such as love, grieving, or congratulations. Like many other flowers in Chinese culture, the lily flower is imbued with meaning. Meaning The lily is often gifted to women on their birthdays or on their wedding day because the flower represents a bringer of sons and, traditionally, Chinese culture favors boys in the family — although that value is changing with every generation. The Chinese lily is also a great present for women on their wedding day and is a good choice for wedding floral arrangements in general. This is because the lily is called ç™ ¾Ã¥ Ë† in Chinese, which is pronounced as  bÇŽi hà ©.  Phonetically, these characters are reminiscent of the Chinese proverb,  Ã§â„¢ ¾Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¥ ¥ ½Ã¥ Ë† (BÇŽinià ¡n hÇŽo hà ©), which means  happy  union for one hundred years. Therefore, the lily, or  bÇŽi hà ©,  is a symbol for a long-lasting and happy marriage. Appearance   The Chinese lily flower is a bulb flower that grows up to 4 feet tall. A towering plant, lilies are typically unicolor and have six large petals that taper outward.   Uses Besides its metaphorical use, Chinese lilies also have medical use. Dried bulbs can be used in soups to treat intestinal discomfort. When the flower part of the lily is dried, it can be applied to bruises and cuts. Lily flowers are also eaten in the summer to help keep cool and reduce body heat.

Othello by William Shakespeare An Epic Play Worth Reading

Have you ever seen a play that has a unique cast of characters and clearly shows us how when you love somebody, they can eventually stab you in the back or when you kill somebody they stay alive even though you stab them in the back numerous times and they apologize for something they did to you? I can think of one play that can answer each of these questions and a whole lot more. This play is Shakesphere’s Othello and it is one with an epic war between Love and Evil. While reading Othello, one encounters such diverse and dynamic characters as, Othello, Desdemona, Rodergio, Iago, and Cassio. These characters are all affected, in some way either by jealousy, or manipulated by Iago to feel jealousy. The literary techniques that Shakespeare†¦show more content†¦Tis but a man gone. Forth my sword – he dies† (Roderigo Act 5 Scene 1, Line 8-10.) What Roderigo is saying though these lines is that Iago convinced him to go and kill Cassio so he can get his spot as lieutentant to Othello and before they are able to kill Cassio, Iago kills Roderigo off because he might rat out to either Othello or Cassio about Iago’s plan to murder Cassio just so he can gain his position. Othello is jealous because he thinks Cassio, his honorable lieutenant is accused of sleeping with Desdemona because Iago tells him this, He then kills Desdemona for cheating on him and she still stays alive from all the stabs he does with the knife and she is begging him to forgive her for what she did and says that she did not sleep with Cassio. he is known for picking up prostitutes off of the side of the road such as In Act 1 Scene 2, Barbantio states this about Othello and his wife’s relationship in Othello: â€Å"Damnd as thou art, thou hast enchanted her; For Ill refer me to all things of sense,If she in chains of magic were not bound, Whether a maid so tender, fair and happy,So opposite to marriage that she shunned The wealthy curled darlings of our nation, would ever have, to incur a

Exploitation of the Workers in the Retail Industry

Question: Discuss about theExploitation of the Workers in the Retail Industry. Answer: Introduction In regards to the social development, the retail entails the process of selling consumer goods or the services to the consumers using different channels of distribution in order to earn profits. The Quickshop is probably one of the retail industry which highly concentrate on the customer satisfaction (Campbell, Boese Tham, 2016). It has more than 60 stores in Queensland, Australia providing an in-depth shopping experience through offering more choice and value to the client. Nonetheless, the Quickshop as a medium sized business that is looking forward to providing more branches and becomes the best in the industry faces various issues. One of the biggest problems they are facing is the exploitation of the workers in the retail industry which consequently may have implication on the brand of the business (Campbell, Boese Tham, 2016). The report aims to examine different types of exploitation and the potential demerits about the exploitation of the workers in the retail industry. Summary of the Issue There are different types of exploitation of the employees by their employers, especially in Australian retail industry. One of the ways is an underpayment of employees. The workers are paid below the minimum wages at $10 instead of a wage of 24 dollars. This has been exhibited in one chain store sevem-7 in Australia (Burgmann, 1995). The employees especially those from foreigners have had their visas taken, and forced to work for long hours which are of the permit condition to stay in that country. There are also concerns about the wage theft where workers wage are robbed of their part-time work especially the penalty rates for working at night, weekends and perhaps during the public holiday. The half pay scam has been dominating in the Australian retail industries where the workers work for 40 hours a week for an average of 12 dollars per hour against the award rate of 24.69 dollars per hour. This is labor exploitation, particularly when one works for more than 16 hours without a b reak. Exploitation of the workers in the retail industry has many demerits. Exploitation is a bad example as well as severe damage to the legitimate rights and the interest of employees. The press practices and exploitation of the employees are a grave violation of the business law and social practices (Webster Randle, 2016). On social, economic and development the exploitation of workers might not bring profit and health operation of the firm but instead, stagnate on the development of the organization. Consequently, this will lead to the wrong impression for the corporate image and brand management. Implication forBusiness The exploitation of workers is a common practice in the retail industry; this will have a harmful impact on the industry. The customers will no longer trust in the retail industry because they are providing unfair working practices (Esposito Evangelista, 2014). The need to take proactive steps is imperative and ensures that the franchise business partners adheres to both ethical and legal business standards while being profitable. Additionally, the industry needs to provide a convenient shopping experience to the customers and provide fair opportunities to the workers. A fit for purpose approach would be appropriate for the retail industry to enable them to increase profit. References Burgmann, V. (1995). The Effect of Fast Food in Our Health Essay Example

The Effect of Fast Food in Our Health Paper Have you ever asked yourself why are there so many fat people out there? No? Yes? This writer has, and this writer would like to know what the reasons are. It is hard to know all the reasons, but most of them are obvious. We are what we eat. This is one of the simplest reasons, and this writer believes it is right. Most of obese people have bad nutrition habits such as high fat level food intake. According to the United States government, the number of overweight Americans is higher than ever before. A 1991 study found that one-third of U.S. adults are obese. One of the reasons for this percentage is the frequent consumption of fast food. The American fast food is not healthy and most of it leads to obesity and might cause cardiovascular problems. It also contributes to polluting the environment. Another reason is that millions of cows, chickens, and pigs are killed every year to satisfy hungry people. Fast food is not good for our health and for our environment. Do you know how many grams of fat a burger contains? No, right? The reason is because fast food is not often labeled with nutrition facts, but people do not care about it, they just want something fast to eat. The problems begin when the intake of fast food is frequent or almost every day. It is really easy, cheap, and of course fast going to any fast food restaurant or drive through and buy a burger and fried chips, but is it good for your health? The response is No. This does not mean fast food is bad. But it does mean you should fit fast food into a balanced healthy diet. Research shows that eating too much high-fat foods contributes to high blood cholesterol levels. This can cause hardening of the arteries, coronary disease and stroke. High-fat diets may also contribute to a greater risk for some types of cancer, particularly cancers of the breast and colon.(Fast food facts-internet) Eating disorders associated with a sedentary lifestyle contributes to obesity, and obesity is expensive. As an example most of the diseases above-mentioned are directly related to obesity. Realize that it is still possible to eat fast food occasionally and follow sensible diet. Fast food also contributes polluting the environment. Just think that for a second how much garbage do fast food restaurants throw away every day. It is a lot. And where it comes from? This is an easy question. It comes from every wrapped burger, straw, or chips and drinks containers. Just imagine thousands of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and so on are sold every day in United States, so a lot of garbage is collected every day, but just a small part of it is recycled. Another reason of why fast food pollutes the environment is beef. In the United States beef is king. The Western World has a love affair with beef. But how many people are aware that the real costs of the cattle culture are animal suffering, global hunger and poverty, and environmental devastation. More than 6.7 billion-hamburgers were sold last year at fast food restaurants. Beef has been central to the American experience. The relationship between beef and the environment pollution is that cattle raising is a primary factor in the destruction of the worlds remaining tropical rain forests. They graze on nearly 24 percent of landmass of the planet and consume enough grain to feed hundreds of millions of people. The burning of tropical forests to clear land for pasture releases millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. There are currently 1.28 billion cattle populating the Earth. Cattle are also a major cause of global warming.(Rifkin) They emit methane, a potent global warming gas, blocking heat from escaping the Earths atmosphere. One more reason is our dependence on animals for food and the profoundly inhumane and unhealthy conditions under they are currently raised. Beef, pork, turkey, and chicken meat are the main ingredient in fast food menus, but just a few people know how these animals are treated before they are killed and be part of our meal. Mass-produced chickens (around 99% of the market) spend their lives in huge windowless sheds. Many dead and dying birds go unnoticed to discompose in the litter on the shed floor. Most poultry are killed by electric stunning plus neck cutting. They are just animals people think, but the reality is that those animals also feel as human beings. The owners of fast food restaurants say it has positive side also. It is really convenient predictable and fast because out there you can find a fast food restaurant anywhere and it is cheap. Fast food has become a part of the busy American lifestyle. People who work full time and have no time to go home and cook, or students living at the dormitories who do not have the facilities for cooking are just examples of why people eat fast food. There are more than 300,000 fast food restaurants in the U.S. (Fast food facts-internet) and is an important source of employment. But anyway fast food is not the best election for a lunch meal. Healthier choices can be made to help make a healthier body such as eating in vegetarian restaurants or regular restaurants stead of eating fast food every day. This writer conclusion is that even with some positives aspect fast food should be avoided to conserve better our environment and our health. It is your choice to continue eating fast food or not.
